Escalade feels like it's floating – magnetic ride control question
I've got a 2017 Escalade with the magnetic ride control and honestly when it's working right it's one of the smoothest things I've ever driven. But lately it's been feeling really floaty and disconnected, like the suspension is just too soft and the car kind of wallows around on the highway. I remember reading somewhere that these magnetic shocks can start to fail without any visible leaks, and they just lose their ability to properly control the damping. I've been looking into cadillac car shock treatment options and trying to figure out if I need to replace all four corners or if I can get away with just the fronts since that's where most of the floaty feeling seems to come from. I found a shop that specializes in GM magnetic ride systems and they mentioned that on these Escalades, the front shocks tend to wear out faster because they do more work with the weight of the engine. I'm also a bit nervous about the cost because I know these magnetic shocks aren't cheap, but I also don't want to put regular shocks on and lose the adaptive suspension feature because I really like how it can switch between comfort and sport. Has anyone here gone through replacing the magnetic ride shocks on their Escalade and can tell me if it brought back that original ride quality? Also wondering if there's any way to test them before just throwing money at replacements. Any advice would be great.
